It is true that assessment can be difficult in online learning situations, but there are many alternatives. Students can be given proctored tests if that type of assessment is actually necessary. But, they can have alternative forms of assessment as well. In my experience with this degree at USM, I have not had many "tests". Instead my progress has been determined by products that I have created and submitted. It is easy to know that each of us has completed our own work. The instructors usually "meet" with us online at the beginning of the semester. We introduce ourselves with pictures or voice, so it is easy to know that it is us when we turn in assignments such as videos and podcasts. So, it is not that assessments are not possible, just that they have to be re-imagined.
This week we created rubrics and quizzes for our online course site. I liked the tools that were available to do this. Rubistar was easy to use. It was a little difficult to think of different levels for the rubric, but it helped me to think of what each "level" would look like as the one doing the assessment. Easy test maker was, just as the title suggests, easy to use. I don't care for the format for saving, but I can see how it would be useful if I needed that type of assessment. We also added forums to our sites. I was not aware this could be done with Weebly. I like this feature, and it would be a major selling point for me if I was looking for a place to host content such as this.
I did have a lot of issues with the website this week. I am not sure if it was on my end or on Weebly's but some of my group members reported the same thing.
