Standard II
Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
Reflection
This standard promotes the idea that our students need to be exposed to all types of technology in their learning. The educator who meets this standard uses current technology to design a unique learning environment to meet student needs. He or she provides multiple types of assessments to gather data used to further drive instruction. The newest emerging technologies make these tasks so much easier for today’s instructors. The resources available to use through technology are many. The educator meeting this standard does not fear new ideas and methods but studies them to determine how they can best serve the student. I developed several assessments for this course. The Rubistar rubric provides students with a guide that shows them exactly what must be done to achieve the highest score. The movie project I created was another form of a rubric which students could use as a guide in their presentation. I created an assessment with Easy Test Maker that allowed me to print a PDF copy, but the program could also be used to host an online assessment. All of these tools are very different, but they accomplish similar goals. The Scoopit project I created is a good example of individualized instruction. The student is able to decide which topic most interests them to conduct further research in our topic area. The Thinglink project could be used as an enrichment activity to meet the extra needs of gifted students. These are all examples of how technology can be used to create a unique and personalized instructional plan for students.

Future Learning Goals
I would like to expand the online assessment components of these projects further. I would like to find or develop a tool that would allow me to simply have students take the assessments online and provide me with a grade or snapshot of how the student or even an entire class is doing. Because I have so many students (750 that I see weekly) using technology tools like this would make my job easier. I would be more effective because I would be able to focus on instruction instead of clerical tasks such as grading.
- Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.
- Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress.
- Customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources.
- Provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching.
